With Worlds 2020 heading into the Quarterfinals stage, LoL esports fans can look forward to diverse matchups in each bracket. Besides a LCK vs LCK and LPL vs LPL face-off, we will also be graced by a special EU vs LPL matchup and an EU vs LCK duel.
By Amanda ’Tania Mae’ Tan October 12, 2020 9:23 am The Worlds 2020 quarterfinals draw occurred after Group D completed their run, and it is headlined by an LPL matchup between Suning and JD Gaming, and an LCK face-off between DAMWON Gaming and DRX. On the last day of Groups, DRX and Top Esports were tied 4-1. With the League of Legends 2020 World Championship on the horizon, the group stage brackets will soon be decided so all spectators of League of Legends professional play can participate in the Worlds Pick’em action. Fans will have a chance at unique rewards this year if they guess the brackets of the tournament correctly.
Seeing how many LoL esports fans are also anime buffs, we’re confident that many can relate to these epic Attack on Titan battles that are comparable to the upcoming quarterfinals series.
The matchups for the League of Legends World Championship quarter finals have been revealed after the group stage came to a close earlier today, with some big names set to face off in the first. The bracket is set as the final eight teams of the League of Legends World Championship move on to the knockout stage SK Telecom T1 are massively favored to advance to the semifinals over Splyce This is the first year in Worlds history that all three European teams advanced out of the group stage.
Warning: Spoiler alert if you haven’t seen the first two seasons of Attack on Titan. No spoilers for Season 3.DAMWON Gaming vs DRX: Colossal Titan vs Survey Corps
In the second season of Attack on Titan, when Reiner Braun revealed himself to be the Armored Titan, Bertolt Hoover was also exposed to be the Colossal Titan. As Titan Eren battled the Armored Titan, the Survey Corps had to take on the massive monster that towered over the wall — again.
DRX edged out DAMWON 3-2 in the LCK Spring playoffs. DAMWON however, found their form in Summer, and swept DRX 3-0 in the LCK Summer final for the championship.
Like the diverse mix of experience within the Survey Corps, DRX is headlined by veteran Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu, while their support Ryu “Keria” Min-seok and jungler Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon are still in their rookie year.
Facing a team that has played together for two years and grown tremendously, DAMWON are in their best form coming into Worlds 2020. Can DRX head coach Kim “cvMax” Dae-ho’s drafts scratch the surface of this powerhouse?Suning vs JD Gaming: Titan Eren vs Armored Titan
Reiner Braun and Eren Yeager were like brothers in the Survey Corps. Enraged by the revelation that Reiner was the Armored Titan, Titan Eren engaged in a slugfest.
JD Gaming‘s armor was forged in fires of the LPL Spring final and LPL Summer final. Battling against Top Esports, they are the only team so far to have beaten them in a best-of-five series.
Suning levelled up considerably this year, and showed even more potential in Groups. Like Eren in Titan form, even though these two teams are from the LPL, none will show mercy in the playoffs. Possessing the same intense determination as Eren, you can be sure that Suning will put up a good fight.Top Esports vs Fnatic: Captain Levi vs Eren
When Eren was first discovered to have Titan powers, he was jailed, then brought to military court to be tried. There, he shouted and yelled for his life, but was swiftly (and harshly) disciplined by Captain Levi.
Top Esports barely showed their hand in Groups. Yu “JackeyLove” Wen-Bo mostly played Senna, while Liang “yuyanjia” Jia-Yuan was comfortable on defensive supports. They won games by punishing mistakes made by opponents, then snowballed for the win.
If you thought watching mid laner Zhuo “knight” Ding on Nocturne, Akali, and Galio was fun, wait until TES reach for more in the playoffs. Fnatic’s strategy is to play through bot lane with Martin “Rekkles” Larsson as their key carry, but as Groups has shown, Top Esports can play through any lane.
What are Fnatic’s chances? Let’s just say that to defeat Captain Levi alone, Eren would have needed to turn into a Titan.Gen.G vs G2 Esports: Titans at Utgard Castle vs YmirLol Worlds Quarterfinals BracketLol Worlds Quarterfinals Bracket 2019
Cornered at Utgard Castle, Ymir revealed to her friends that she had Titan powers. With all her might, she defended herself and her comrades from the swarm of attackers.Lol Worlds Quarterfinals Bracket Standings
As Worlds 2018 semifinalists, MSI 2019 champions, and Worlds 2019 finalists, G2 Esports are ready to unleash their full power and shoot for the stars. With unpredictable picks, a fluid yet aggressive playstyle, and clutch team fighting, they should be happy in their current all-LCK bracket.
Going up against Gen.G, who tend to play around mid laner Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong and AD carry Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk, we expect G2 to disrupt the ‘standard’ LCK gameplay with their creative ways, just like how Ymir adapted to the environment, resourcefully using the tools she had to overcome her opponents.Lol Worlds Quarterfinals Bracket Odds
It won’t be easy however, for Gen.G will push them. Holding most — if not all — of Europe’s hopes in their hands, you can be sure they will do their utmost best to save EU and defeat any giants standing in their way.
